Every individual deserves access to health, liberty, and security. However, young individuals with disabilities often face barriers in meeting their basic needs and accessing sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) due to challenges like higher risk of violence and gender-based inequality. The digital divide, in terms of accessibility, literacy, and internet access, further complicates this picture

In a pioneering initiative, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in partnership with the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) and the Global Network of Young Persons with Disabilities (GNYPWD), is hosting an Innovation Challenge to address these pressing issues. This challenge is aimed at bolstering the capability of young persons with disabilities and facilitating the design of technology-based solutions that address SRHR concerns tailored to their unique needs.

The opportunity is open to teams and organizations with representation from young persons with disabilities, targeting solutions for family planning, maternal health, and gender-based violence. The most promising groups will be rewarded with monetary aid, capacity building support, and opportunities to test their technology with UNFPA country offices.

Digital technology is an empowering tool that can transform the world of young persons with disabilities. It can help raise awareness of their rights, provide resources, and facilitate access to benefits. By integrating technology with SRHR, this initiative aims to bring a radical change that can eliminate inequalities and strengthen the position of young individuals with disabilities.

This is a chance to be a part of an extraordinary transformation that promotes the health and well-being of young persons with disabilities. All aspiring teams and organizations must submit their proposals in English by June 15th. Remember, only one submission per team is allowed, and your idea must align with the UNFPA’s priorities and thematic areas.

We encourage all eligible innovators to take part in this Innovation Challenge and contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable world. You can submit your proposal here. If you require the application in a different format or have any questions, please feel free to contact us at info@gnypwd.org. Be a part of this radical change and make a difference in the lives of young persons with disabilities.

Through technology, we can empower, educate, and make a difference. This is not just an innovation challenge, it is a chance to contribute to societal change and ensure that everyone has the same opportunities for health and happiness. Together, let’s create an inclusive, equitable, and accessible future for all.
